Why You Should Never Pull Your Extensions Out
Your natural lashes have a growth cycle. Pulling out extensions prematurely can rip out your natural lashes from the root, a condition known as traction alopecia. This can result in sparse, uneven lash growth that takes months to recover. Always opt for a professional removal or a safe, approved method.
The Professional Method: Using a Lash Remover
This is the gold standard for a reason. It's fast, effective, and preserves the health of your natural lashes.
What You'll Need:
Professional-grade lash extension remover (gel or cream form is preferred)
Microbrushes or pointed cotton swabs
Glass or ceramic dappen dishes
Undereye gels pads or medical tape
Lint-free cleansing swabs or microbrushes
Lash shampoo or gentle cleanser
Step-by-Step Process:
Preparation & Protection:
Gently cleanse the client's eye area to remove any makeup or oils.
Place undereye gel pads securely under the lower lashes to protect the delicate skin underneath. Ensure the client's eyes are closed comfortably.
Application of Remover:
Dispense a small amount of the lash remover into a dappen dish.
Using a microbrush, carefully apply a thin, precise layer of the remover only to the adhesive bond points where the extension is attached to the natural lash. Avoid contact with the skin or eyes.
The Waiting Game:
Allow the remover to work for 2-4 minutes. The gel formula will break down the cyanoacrylate in the glue without dripping into the eyes.
Gentle Removal:
After the waiting period, gently use a pair of tweezers to slide the extensions off the natural lashes. If the glue has properly dissolved, the extensions should slide off with little to no resistance. If you feel resistance, apply a little more remover and wait another minute.
The Final Cleanse:
Once all extensions are removed, thoroughly cleanse the lash line with a lash shampoo and water to remove all traces of the remover and dissolved glue.
Rinse thoroughly and gently pat dry.
Important Aftercare Tips
Avoid applying new extensions for at least 24 hours to let your natural lashes breathe.
Be gentle with your lashes; avoid rubbing your eyes.
Consider applying a lash serum to nourish and strengthen your natural lashes after the removal process.
